Galesburg Police responded to the 600 block of Home Boulevard last Tuesday night for multiple reports of shots fired and a downed light pole. Officers met with witnesses at the Sandburg Village Apartments. 9mm shell casings were discovered on the northeast corner of one building – and .38 caliber shell casings were found near the northwest corner of the property near where the light pole was hit. Witnesses told police a black sedan and a white SUV were involved in the shooting and it was the sedan that backed into the light pole. GPD was able to track down the sedan on McKnight Street which had visible damage to its bumper and bullet holes in the driver-side door and window. The sedan owner told police he pulled into the Sandburg Village Apartments parking lot and someone began firing shots at his vehicle, so he put the sedan in reverse, hit the pole, and took off down Home Boulevard. Police conducted a search of the sedan and found no contraband or firearms. Police are exploring possible leads from security video provided by the Henderson Street Hy Vee. The investigation is ongoing.
