A 64-year old Florida man was arrested in Galesburg on Saturday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash. A truck driven by Thomas Brown of Milton, Florida, was northbound on Home Boulevard when it left the roadway, drove through the VA Clinic parking lot, struck a tent and a bush, and came to a stop between the clinic and IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union. The front end of the truck had considerable damage. Brown told officers and GHAS paramedics that he was feeling dizzy and had lost consciousness due to his second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Dispatchers reviewing area municipal video footage, observed Brown kick something under his truck when he stepped out. After the truck was towed, officers located a clear, unsealed jar of cannabis underneath. Brown admitted to smoking cannabis earlier that morning and agreed to a field sobriety test – which indicated signs of impairment, and he was placed under arrest. Since an open container of cannabis was found at the scene, Brown was charged with DUI – Any Amount of Drugs. He later told officers at the Public Safety Building, “I’m high.” Brown was also charged with Unlawful Possession of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Reduce Speed.
