GPD arrests 17-year old after shots fired call

Just after midnight early this morning (May 4th), Galesburg Police responded to the area of West Main Street and Garfield Avenue for a report of shots fired. Officers secured the area and collected 9mm and .22 caliber shell casings on Garfield Avenue. Two individuals in the area were stopped by police, but one male subject took off running when police began questioning him. While en route, another officer observed the male subject in the area of Ferris and Academy Streets and caught up to him in a squad car. The subject, at one point, ran into the squad car when trying to cross the street. Police ordered the subject to the ground and he was detained. The subject was a 17-year old Galesburg juvenile who was in possession of a Remington .22 caliber Long Rifle. The juvenile admitted to shooting up a house on Garfield. The juvenile was taken to the Knox County Jail for processing then on to the Mary Davis Home. He’s facing charges of Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Resisting, and Criminal Damage to Property.
