Thomas J. Dean, 76, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 6:18 pm, Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at the Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL.

Tom was born May 22, 1944, in Galesburg, IL the son of James P. and Honora Pauline (Hayes) Dean.   He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1962.

Tom served as a Medic with the United States Army during Vietnam from 1963 to 1969.

Tom married Sandra K. Chezem in Monmouth, IL on January 20, 1978, and she survives.

He worked for a bit at Kroger Foods and later as a food supervisor for the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Henry Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg, IL for 23 years before retiring in 2002.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth and the Monmouth VFW where he served on the American Legion/VFW Honor Squad for many years.  Tom and Sandy enjoyed camping and traveling in their RV.  He loved bass fishing and frisbee golf.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Dean of Monmouth, IL; his children, Tommy (Marsha) Dean of Knoxville, IL, Steve (Shelly) Crabill of Bloomington, IL, Debbie Newby of Olathe, KS and Julie (Ray) Brodrick of Monmouth, IL; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Rita Krolicki of Farmington, Hills, MI; his brother-in-law, Emanuel Leon of Sedona, AZ; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, James P. Dean and Mike Dean, and 1 sister, Tennessa J. Leon.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth, IL with a Rosary Service beginning at 9:30 am at the church. Interment with Military Honors will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth, IL.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm, Monday, May 10, 2021, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL   Memorials may be given to Monmouth American Legion/VFW Honor Guard or St. Jude Children’s Hospital and sent to the funeral home.  Due to COVID-19 Restrictions, all attendees must wear a mask and social distance.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com.
