Proposed maps cut Galesburg from 4 lawmakers in Springfield to 2, Hammond and Swanson to face-off

Under the redistricting maps that Democratic lawmakers released last week, Galesburg would go from the four lawmakers that represent at least a portion of Galesburg to two.

The map currently has Galesburg divided into two separate Senate Districts and two separate House Districts.

The proposed maps have Alpha and Macomb in the same district. That means Republican State Reps. Dan Swanson and Norine Hammond would have to face off to retain a seat in the House.

The House Districts represented by Swanson and Hammond now cover an area that extends from Mt. Sterling to just south of Dixon, a stretch of about 180 miles.

The two furthest points in the new district would be about 70 miles, starting around Macomb and stopping with some of the smaller towns around the Quad Cities.

The new Senate District would be shaped much the same, except it would include the entire Quad Cities.

That means though that Jil Tracy from Quincy and Win Stoller from Peoria could not represent Galesburg.

However, Tracy could still be the Senator for Abingdon, Aledo, Wataga, Oquawka and some other more rural towns in Knox-Warren counties.
