Celebrate some tasty treats with a pair of festivals happening in the area this weekend.

Starting Friday and running through Saturday, Aledo’s Rhubarb Festival will be held in the community’s central park and feature live music on both days, model train displays, crafts and flea markets, and baked goods for sale.

Come early tomorrow for the Aledo Volunteer Firemen’s breakfast that will include Rhubarb toppings or take in the Lil’ Rhubarb Royalty Pageant.

The traveling miniature Vietnam Tribute Wall is also on full display in Aledo and will be there until Sunday. CDC COVID-19 guidelines will be in place.

Saturday is also the 33rd Annual Elmwood Strawberry Festival running from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in and around Central Park in downtown Elmwood.

There’s plenty going on throughout the day with a pancake and sausage breakfast, car show, as well as craft and vendors.

There are also a number of non-food-related things to do this weekend as well.

Take the kids to see a free flick in Abingdon’s Rotary Park Saturday night at dusk, or around 8:00 pm, when Michael Jordan and the Looney Toons team up in Space Jam.

The community fundraiser for the Annual Abingdon Days 4th of July Celebration will feature cash concessions, bake sales, and a 50/50 raffle.

The Railtown Rumble car show returns to town, hosted by New Limited Rods of Western Illinois, at Cedar Creek East on Sunday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm with food provided by Smokin’ Willies.

Also on Sunday, the 2021 Levitt AMP Galva music series continues with blues band the Avery Grouws Band and Americana-folk band Stone and Snow hitting the stage.

Food vendors will be on-site or guests can bring a picnic dinner. Levitt AMP concerts at Wiley Park are provided free of charge.
