KCAP holding annual meeting this week

The public is invited to a free event where regional businesses and community leaders gather to discuss issues of economic growth and development.

The Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development is holding its annual meeting this week at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Galesburg.

The event is being held Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at the historic venue and KCAP President Ken Springer says it’s important for the community to come and get involved.

“Well, so much of the work that we do has an impact on the entire community. Whether that’s helping existing employers expand or helping new startups fill up vacant buildings, that sort of thing,” Springer said to WGIL. “The work we do as an organization is pretty important to the community and so this is a great opportunity for the community to engage with us in a discussion of what’s going on and what the future looks like and where we’re heading from here.”

Springer says the event will be split into two parts.

“I’m going to give a report on what KCAP has done over the last year. And then, the main event is going to be an expert industry panel. So, we have representatives from the transportation, tourism, food processing, healthcare, and manufacturing industries. And, we’re going to be asking them about the changes that their industries experienced as a result of COVID and the outlook moving forward. So, taken together, anybody attending the event is going to have a really good sense of where our economy is heading in the future.”

While the event is geared towards decision-makers, businesses, and elected officials, any community member interested in where the local economy is at and headed is encouraged to attend.

Masks will be required for the event.
