A little after 5:00 pm on Friday, June 11th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 1900 block of Grand Avenue – the Shell Gas Station – to make contact with 27-year old Danny Britt of Peoria. Police were familiar with Britt due to previous encounters – and were attempting to keep him at the scene so Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies could serve him child custody paperwork. While at the gas station, Britt continually refused to comply with police commands and eventually entered his rental vehicle and drove off down Grand Avenue at a high rate of speed. Three children in car seats were inside the vehicle at the time according to police reports. Britt refused to identify the children and continually yelled profanity at officers. Police followed Britt who was recklessly speeding down East Main Street as he pulled into Dollar General on East Main Street and went inside to make a purchase. His refusal to comply with police commands continued until additional officers arrived and he was placed under arrest. Britt was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with Obstruction / Resisting a Peace Officer, Obstructing Service of Process, Reckless Driving, Endangering the Life / Health of a Child, and a Henry County Warrant. One of the children was released to her mother, the others were released to Britt’s mother.
