Monmouth College has made some reductions to its staffing.

Seven faculty members were “separated” from the college according to social media posts from Vice President for Academic Affairs Dean of the Faculty Mark Willhardt.

He stated that work had concluded with the Board of Trustees’ Ad Hoc Committee on Faculty Reductions.

Four of the staff members affected were assistant professors and three were visiting professors. Five of those positions will end after the end of the 2021/2022 academic year, two will serve out the visiting contract through the 2022/2023 academic year.

Willhardt says that he will be meeting with the Chairs of the affected departments to discuss the impacts of the reductions but, as of this time, no majors will be eliminated because of the reductions.

It’s been a tumultuous year for the liberal arts college as WGIL previously reported that the school was forced to make cuts to employer retirement contributions, layoffs, and deep budget cuts.

This led to a confidential vote of “no confidence” in college President Clarence Wyatt at a faculty senate meeting on April 5th and asked he either resign his position or be removed by the college’s board of trustees.
