Aldermen in the City of Monmouth approved the sale of a solid waste transfer station to Lake Shore Recycling.

The transfer station acted as a collection point for waste removed from the city by the City’s Solid waste vendor.

Lake Shore Recycling offered the city $2.25M for the transfer station, which the city council approved at their meeting Monday night.

In addition to the sale price, the city will be compensated $1.25 for every in-bound ton that is received at the site.

LRS will maintain all necessary equipment and plans to install a scale and hire additional employees.

The company also relayed that they’re wishing to purchase commercial property within the city to establish a truck fleet, perform maintenance, and customer service operations and eventually bid competitively on trash and recycling pickup in the city.

LRS intends to use the transfer station to collect waste as is currently done and transport it to their permanent landfill in Atkinson, Illinois.

After the purchase order is executed, legal transfer of the eight acres of land will occur and LRS will begin transfer station operations.

In other action from Monday’s meeting, aldermen approved a commercial building rehabilitation grant application for 109/111 East 1st Avenue.

Work includes replacement of damaged bricks, tuckpointing, and installation of a new parapet. The total cost of the work is $30,408 with 30 percent of those expenses reimbursable under the grant.
