State Senator Win Stoller has fired back at Rep. Tony McCombie after on Wednesday she said she’s considering a run for Stoller’s 37th District senate seat.
Both Stoller and McCombie are Republicans.
McCombie says she’s exploring the Senate campaign because under recently redrawn maps she would have to challenge other GOP Reps. Tom Demmer and Andrew Chesney.
But Stoller on Thursday says Republicans cannot afford a “very divisive” primary that would drain resources and “make this district more vulnerable to a Democrat” winning in the general election.
Stoller says that McCombie is disingenuous. He claims she’s recently admitted that her influence in the House is shot because of her “overambitious aborted leadership challenge” to House Republican Leader Jim Durkin.
He says if McCombie wants to continue to serve she could either move to the newly created 36th Senate District, which doesn’t have an incumbent.
There are also rumors that Democratic State Rep. Mike Halpin will run for Cheri Bustos seat in the U.S. House.
Stoller suggests McCombie run Halpin’s seat if that were to happen.
