Galesburg Police on Wednesday afternoon, July 25, responded to the 100-block of South Kellogg Street for a report of a burglary.

The address was the site of an ongoing construction project at 185 South Kellogg Street.

Workers at the site told officers someone had taken numerous rolls of copper and pressurized copper sticks.

Area businesses with security cameras showed a white male subject on a bicycle enter the construction site the night before.

Identifying the subject wasn’t possible in the still-images provided to police.

Officers then made contact with Jay’s Auto Salvage and Progress Rail Service to see if anyone had brought copper in recently – which no one had yet.

The investigation is ongoing.
