CDC says Knox County seeing substantial COVID transmission

The rate of new cases of COVID-19 has been increasing in Knox County over the last few weeks.

According to the Knox County Unified Command, 44 new cases of Coronavirus Disease were reported between Tuesday, July 27, and Monday, August 2.

The Illinois Department of Public Health says that the total number of positive cases in Knox County has increased to 5,772.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID data tracker, Knox County’s level of community transmission is considered substantial.

Substantial transmission is considered by the CDC to be those areas with 50 to 99 cases per 100,000 residents over a seven-day period.

The Knox County Health Department joins the CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health in recommending everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask indoors in areas of substantial and high transmission.

The health department is working to identify and actively monitor individuals who were in direct contact with any individual who has tested positive.

According to the IDPH, Knox County has administered nearly 46,715 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, with almost 22,997 county residents having been fully vaccinated.

The Unified Command is hosting multiple vaccine clinics during the month of August with all three of the vaccines available.
