A man is in custody for armed robbery after threatening an employee with a knife at the Shell Gas Station on Grand Ave. Wednesday night.
56-year-old Darrin W. Riddle was apprehended by Galesburg Police, not long after the robbery, a short distance away, around 10:45 p.m.
A release from GPD says that Riddle pulled a knife on the station’s clerk and threatened to kill her if she didn’t give him all the cash in the register.
Riddle took the cash and departed.
The clerk was familiar with Riddle, and told officers that he’s a regular at the Shell Station. She gave the police a description which helped them make an arrest.
Riddle told police that he robbed the gas station because he’s a drug addict and needed money to buy more drugs.
Riddle is scheduled to appear in Knox County Court Thursday.
