Following Governor JB Pritzker’s decision to require masks to be worn for in-person learning in schools, the Catholic Schools of the Peoria Diocese have announced they’ll be complying at its facilities.

In a statement from Dr. Sharon Weiss, Superintendent of Schools, she says that the Office of Catholic Schools will be directing the 42 elementary and secondary schools to be complying with the governor’s Executive Order.

Weiss notes that the Governor said supporting safe in-person learning requires masks to be work indoors by all teachers, staff, students, and visitors in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th-grade schools, regardless of vaccination status.

She says, quote, “the Catholic Diocese of Peoria has the greatest concern and care for God’s children, and will do what is required by the Governor to hopefully, eradicate COVID-19 and its variants.”

This will affect faculty, staff, and students at Costa Catholic Academy in Galesburg and Immaculate Conception School in Monmouth.
