New COVID cases increasing week-over-week in Knox County

Knox County is seeing a growing spread of COVID activity week-over-week.

According to a release from the Knox County Health Department, 68 new cases of Coronavirus Disease were reported in the county over the last week, between Tuesday, August 3, and Monday, August 9.

Due to federal privacy restrictions, the release of any additional information is prohibited. In every effort to reduce the risk of additional transmission, local public health officials are working to identify and actively monitor individuals who were in direct contact with these individuals.

The IDPH’s COVID tracker indicates that 5,480 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and there have been 157 deaths attributed to the viral disease.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 Community Transmission Map Knox County’s level of community transmission is considered HIGH.

The health department joins the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the IDPH in recommending that everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask indoors in areas of substantial and high transmission.

The IDPH says that administered 46,843 COVID-19 vaccines and 23,167 county residents 46.23 percent of Knox County residents have been fully vaccinated from COVID.

The Knox County Unified Command is hosting multiple vaccine clinics during the month of August. The Health Department offers the two-dose Moderna and the one-dose Janssen to those 18 years of age and up and the two-dose Pfizer vaccine to those 12 years of age and up. Individuals under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parental consent must be signed before the vaccine can be administered.
