Margaret L. “Shorty” Allen, 93, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 4:18 pm, Monday, August 16, 2021, at Courtyard Estates, Monmouth, IL.
Shorty was born June 26, 1928, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Raymond J and Bertha C. (Dehn) Matter. She graduated from Alexis High School in 1946.
She married Robert W. Allen on November 23, 1947, in Monmouth, IL; he preceded her in death on May 17, 2000.
Shorty taught Sunday School and Children’s Church at the First Christian Church and Immanuel Baptist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed riding horses. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.
Surviving Shorty is her daughter, Bev (John) Millar of Monmouth, IL; her grandchildren, Michele (Cory) Bizarri of Monmouth, IL, Tammy (Greg) Keal of Olathe, KS, John RW (Trisha) Millar of Galesburg, IL; her great-grandchildren, Nathan Bizarri, Patrick Grey, Hannah Grey, Courtney Bizarri, Lexie Millar, and Blake Millar. Also surviving is her brother, Wayne (Judy) Matter of Viola, IL, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and infant son, James Robert Allen.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, August 20, 2021, at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church of Monmouth or Immanuel Baptist Church of Monmouth.
