Richard “Dick” D. Hampton, 76 of Abingdon, passed away at 4:07 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington. Dick was reunited and is celebrating with his wife Kathleen on her birthday.

He was born December 25, 1944, in Glasford, the son of Prentice G. and Elma J. (Akison) Hampton. He married Janet Cuson in 1962.   He later married Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Ramirez in 1983. She preceded him in death on November 2, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Ronald.

Dick is survived by his children from his marriage to Janet, Shelley (Greg) Abernathy of Vermont, Melanie (Bud Leach) Vanattan of Vermont, Robin (Rick) McHone of Plymouth, Angela (Tommie) Cain of Rushville, Richard (Stacy) Hampton of Vermont and Ruth (Stephen) Huber of Gridley; and his children from his marriage to Kathy, Anita (Jason) Weber of Oneida, Prentice (fiancé Amanda Correll) Hampton of Abingdon, Andrew (fiancé Catherine Gregoire) Hampton of Abingdon and James “JD” Hampton of Abingdon; 27 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty (Jim) Bohannon of Springfield.

Dick has lived in Abingdon since 1988 and prior to that had lived in Fulton County, Illinois, and Muscatine, Iowa. He was a transport driver and recorded 2 ½ million safe driving miles in his semi. He worked the past seven years for Scharfenberg Farms. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He loved riding around in his truck with his dogs and enjoyed time spent at the Abingdon American Legion. Most of all, he loved his family.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel followed by a graveside service at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
