Galesburg City Council will meet Tuesday night and consider an ordinance to allow establishments with a liquor license a shorter wall for outdoor areas. The request was brought to the city because the current requirement of a six-foot wall obstructs the view in and out of the areas. The administration anticipates that this ordinance could be useful once temporary COVID rules have expired. Council can also amend the city code regarding Microbrewery/Brewpubs to copy new State of Illinois Liquor License regulations. That would create a new license class for brewers. Aldermen will also have on first reading the selling of a number of city vehicles that are being retired. The vehicles will be sold through a public auction, consignment, and online auction.

Galesburg Aldermen on Tuesday can also approve the purchase of a mobile camera trailer. This is a video surveillance tool that council documents say is used for the detection and deterrence of crime. The recommended bid is for just less than $25,000. Many camera systems are fixed in nature and only allow for cameras to be used in a specific location. The mobile camera trailer would allow for surveillance in as many locations as police needed. They anticipate using the system at events like the 4th of July, Railroad Days, and Heritage Days, as well as different locations in the city as a way of detecting and deterring crime. They say the trailer has no weapons aboard and is defensive in nature. They will also discuss a reordering of the Galesburg Youth Commission, including making a majority of the group’s members youths.
