The Galesburg Silver Streaks played a strong three quarters-plus on the road opening Western Big 6 Conference against the Sterling Golden Warriors Friday night — taking a 21-6 lead, only to watch Sterling score on their last three possessions, putting together an 18-point fourth quarter, and coming back to break the Streaks’ hearts, 24-21.
Nolan Carl was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game, coming up big — blocking a punt, blocking an extra point, and sacking Sterling’s quarterback which forced a fumble that brother Aaron Carl was able to return for a defensive touchdown early in the game. Nolan Carl also put Sterling’s quarterbacks under pressure at times.
The Streaks varsity is now 0-3 on the season.
The Streaks freshmen also lost a heartbreaker Friday night, 14-12.
Next up for the Streaks is Geneseo at home next Friday night, their first at home since the season opener. You can hear the varsity game starting at 6:30pm with the pregame, and kickoff at 7pm, on WGIL, WGIL.com, and WGIL on the TuneIn Radio app.
