131 new COVID cases reported in Knox County

The most recent surge in COVID-19 may be on the decline now.

According to information released yesterday from the Knox County Unified Command, 131 new cases of Coronavirus Disease were reported between Tuesday, September 7, and Monday, September 13.

The Illinois Department of Public Health says that the total number of positive cases in Knox County is 6,415. During that same week time period, one death was reported by IDPH. Another death was also reported yesterday.

The recently reported cases is 24 lower last week than the week previous (155). Cases have been increasing throughout the state as the newer, more contagious, Delta variant made its way through the populous.

As of yesterday, 49.03 percent of Knox County’s population was fully vaccinated from the virus. According to the IDPH, Knox County has administered 49,700 COVID-19 vaccines and 24,569 county residents have been fully vaccinated.

Vaccine clinics are being held around Galesburg this week and early next.  The Health Department offers the two-dose Moderna and the one-dose Johnson & Johnson to those 18 years of age and up and the two-dose Pfizer vaccine to those 12 and up. Individuals under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parental consent must be signed before the vaccine can be administered.

The Health Department also continues to offer Curbside COVID-19 Testing on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Appointments can be made the same day by calling 309-344-2225 beginning at around 7:15 a.m.
