Archery deer hunting season open now

Friday was the start of the archery deer hunting season in Illinois.

The archery season runs from October 1 through January 16, with the exception of the seven days that make up the firearm season for most counties in the state.

The dates for the firearm deer hunting season in Illinois are November 19-21 and December 2-5.

Last year, Knox County hunters harvested 2,497 head of deer with over 1,111 from archery, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Warren County hunters took in 814 deer with 319 coming from archery.
