The Galesburg City Council Monday night approved the donation of a parcel of land next to the former Rheinschmidt’s Carpet building.

The building was purchased by the Galesburg Community Foundation to be renovated and leased to the River Bend Food Bank and is to be the new home for the FISH Food Pantry.

The small parcel of land is currently Graham Park for the city, but isn’t included in the Master Park and Rec plan and is not an active park for the city.

It was approved unanimously.

Aldermen in Galesburg also went back on a previous approval, tabling the purchase of a police surveillance camera trailer.

The City Council approved reconsidering the motion to approve and instead tabled the purchase of the nearly $25,000 vehicle until the next meeting.

Alderwoman Jacyln Smith-Esters, who made the motion to table, clarified what she and some constituents want to know about the trailer before the city follows through with purchasing it.

The City Council last month approved the camera trailer’s purchase by a 4-2 vote with board members Dwight White and Kevin Wallace dissenting.
