Two dead in single-vehicle accident on Interstate 74 near Woodhull

Two out-of-state people have died in a single-vehicle accident about six miles south of Woodhull, along Interstate 74 on Monday.

According to the Illinois State Police, a 2004 Jeep Liberty was eastbound on 74 at around mile marker 38 at around 3:30 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drove into the median, lost control, and overturned.

Three individuals were in the vehicle. The driver, a 47-year-old female from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers were transported to local hospitals.

A 58-year-old male from Rolla, Missouri, was flown from the scene and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The second passenger, a male of unknown age from Rolla, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to ISP.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 74 were closed for the traffic crash investigation and scene cleanup, reopening at 7:15.
