A Tazewell County man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Knox County.

According to a release by the Illinois State Police, at around 4:24 Sunday morning, a 2011 Cadillac CTS was traveling west in eastbound lanes on Interstate 74 near mile marker 52 when it struck a 2009 Toyota Corolla head-on.

Police say that the driver of the Corolla, a 35-year-old Mackinaw, Illinois, was killed in the accident and pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. The driver of the Cadillac, 41-year-old Travis T. Williams of Peoria, was taken from the scene to an area hospital with unknown but serious injuries.

Williams was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, and more. It’s likely he’ll face additional charges in the death of the other driver.

The eastbound lanes of 74 were closed for traffic crash investigation and scene cleanup, reopening at approximately 9:00 am. The State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.
