Weekly new cases of Coronavirus Disease or COVID-19 continue showing a declining spread in Knox County.

According to numbers released yesterday by the Knox County Unified Command, 108 new cases were reported between Monday, October 18, and Sunday, October 24.

Knox County has seen 7,352 cases since the start of the pandemic, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health’s online COVID dashboard, and there have been no new deaths reported.

The health department is offering COVID vaccine clinics this week at the Unified Command Vaccine Center where all three of the FDA-approved vaccines will be available.

  • Tuesday, October 26, at the Unified Command Vaccine Center 1:30 pm-3:30 pm Moderna, Pfizer & Janssen (12 years of age and up)
  • Thursday, October 28, at the Unified Command Vaccine Center 8:30 am-10:30 am Moderna, Pfizer & Janssen (12 years of age and up)

Additionally, individuals who self-attest to being immune-compromised and those on immunosuppressant therapy can receive a third dose of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines at all Knox County Unified Vaccine Clinics. Third dose vaccines must be given at least 28 days after the second dose.

Boosters are also available to Johnson and Johnson vaccine recipients for persons aged 18 years and older, who received their vaccine 2 months ago, under the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization.

Boosters of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine are available to qualified individuals who received their primary two-dose series six months previous. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people age 65 and older in a long-term care setting or people ages 50-64 with underlying medical conditions.

The CDC also says that people 18-49 with underlying medical conditions and people aged 18-64 who are at risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional settings also get the boosters.

Regardless, it is recommended that individuals seek out their medical provider about their medical condition and whether getting a booster dose is appropriate for them.

The Health Department continues to offer Curbside COVID-19 Testing on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm; appointments are made the same day by calling (309) 344-2225 beginning at 7:15 a.m.
