i3 broadband has announced that it will expand its network of 100% fiber-optic high-speed internet to residents and businesses in Galesburg.
i3 is the lead fiber-to-the-home operator in Illinois and provides Gigabit-speed broadband, television, and voice services.
The company is planning to invest about $15 million to bring broadband service to the city’s approximately 30,000 residents.
They are promising a “highly competitive package that includes Gig-speed service, and the company’s Smart Wi-Fi Powered by Plume for about $45 a month.
Construction will get underway soon and be completed sometime in 2022.
Mayor Peter Schwartzman says that high-speed internet is now a necessity and is glad to see more options for residents. Schwartzman says becoming a Gigabit City will “definitely improve opportunities for all.”
i3 boasts internet speeds that are up to 300 times faster than DSL, and says they’ve been recognized nationally in the top 3 for both internet speed and customer satisfaction.
i3’s Chief Marketing Office Jane Larson says the ongoing public health emergency has illustrated the necessity of broadband- the broadband gap- and competition in the broadband space.
