
The harvest totals were released this week for this year’s firearm deer hunting season.
Hunters in the state took in 71,675 deer over the two weekends of the firearm season, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. That compares to 77,160 deer harvested last year.
Knox County hunters took in only 355 deer during the second weekend for a grand total of 1,093. That’s down from last year’s 11,43.
All counties surrounding Knox were down from last year. Fulton saw the biggest drop with 231 fewer deer harvested this year. Hunters in that county harvested 1,696 deer compared to 1,927 last year.
Warren County hunters took in another 149 deer for a total of 444 for the firearm season. Henry County hunters had similar numbers, 168 for the second weekend and 448 for the total seven-day season.
