The clinic at Galesburg Cottage Hospital has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in what they say is an effort to “reorganize the clinics and emerge safely to preserve the services we can.”
That was according to a letter Cottage CEO Sanjay Sharma sent to employees on Tuesday.
Director of Community and Staff Relations Courtney Bibo says the hospital is not included in this bankruptcy.
Sharma told employees that the plan is to continue to operate the clinics during bankruptcy and hopefully come out stronger.
We learned a little over a week ago that Medicare and Medicaid payments would be stopped for Cottage after they apparently violated four conditions of participation in Medicare.
The hospital also lost its accreditation earlier in December.
Also in the last week, OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center announced the hiring of two popular pediatricians that had practiced at Cottage until recently; Drs Frank Peppers and Amy Larson.
