There now appears to be a Democratic candidate for Knox County Sheriff in 2022.
Douglas Sampson announced on Facebook that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the office that current Sheriff David Clague will step away from after 15 years.
Clague has run and held office as a Democrat.
Sampson is an Abingdon resident who retired as a Knox County deputy in 2017 after 22 years of service.
Sampson says he’s a lifelong resident of Knox County and has the “highest interest in serving and protecting the citizens of Knox County.”
Jack Harlan announced his intention to run for Sheriff on the Republican side back in August.
Harlan just released a lengthy list of endorsements from State Representatives and local officials like Mayors in Abingdon and Knoxville and Galesburg Alderman Bradley Hix.
