A Rock Island man was sentenced to 72 months and three years of supervised release, for a credit union robbery and interstate transportation of stolen money.
WGIL previously reported that 34-year-old Roman T. Lloyd of Rock Island was arrested on the Fourth of July in 2018 for the robbery of the Alpha Pharmacy in May of that year.
Lloyd had also been charged for the robbery of a Moline credit union in 2019. Following the robbery, Lloyd fled from police, driving at speeds approaching 100 miles an hour on both highways and residential streets.
Police had to use “stop sticks” on five occasions before they were ultimately successful on their sixth attempt. While Lloyd’s tires were deflated, law enforcement used a “PIT maneuver” to force the vehicle into a ditch before he was apprehended.
Based on this evidence, Chief U.S. District Judge Sara Darrow found that an upward variance from the sentencing guidelines was appropriate because Lloyd had shown a reckless disregard for the health and safety of others during the more than 20-minute high-speed chase.
Lloyd’s case in Henry County has been continued several times and, according to online court records, will have a final pre-trial conference held at the end of the month.
Chief U.S. District Judge Sara Darrow says that Lloyd’s federal sentence will run consecutively to any sentence imposed from state charges in the Alpha pharmacy robbery case and in another case in Clinton County, Iowa, for second-degree burglary, second-degree theft, and possession of a controlled substance.
Lloyd was indicted in July 2021 and pleaded guilty in September 2021.
