The Mayor of Pekin and current Illinois State Rep. Mark Luft announced Wednesday that he will run for the newly redrawn 93rd district.

The redrawn 93rd District now includes Oneida, Wataga, Woodhull, Kewanee, Galva, Elmwood, and Pekin.

Republican Luft is an Army veteran and lifelong Pekin resident who says he has a history of voting to protect 2nd amendment rights and the “lives of the unborn.”

In his campaign announcement, Luft says that his priorities are “growing our local economy, protecting parents’ rights, cleaning up corruption, and supporting our law enforcement officers.”

Luft has been Mayor of Pekin since 2019 and a State Rep since 2021.

The 93rd District has been represented by Norine Hammond but if she decides to run again, she would be running for the 94th

The 94th now includes southern parts of Knox County, as well as portions of Fulton, McDonough, Hancock, Warren, and Henderson counties.
