Monmouth College’s “Light This Candle” campaign surpasses $70M raised

Monmouth College is 94 percent of the way to reaching a goal for its “Light This Candle” campaign.

Launching in March of 2019, the “Light This Candle” campaign has raised $70.4M on a goal of $75M with 11 months still to go.

The campaign has four objectives: to add to a capital improvements fund that supports infrastructure; create a strong financial base for the College by building an even stronger culture of philanthropy; increase scholarships and financial aid; and create more opportunities for faculty and staff support and academic innovation.

“I am quite pleased with the Campaign reaching the $70 million level, but I am not surprised in any way,” said William Goldsborough, national Campaign chair. “We have a strong base of committed, engaged alums who have had a great experience at Monmouth and who wish to make the same opportunity available to today’s and future students. It is my expectation that we will easily exceed our $75 million goal before the Campaign is completed.”

Of the $70.4 million raised thus far through the Light This Candle campaign, $55 million has come through current gifts and $14.8 million has come in the form of deferred gifts, according to Vice President for Development and College Relations Hannah Maher.

Monmouth President Clarence R. Wyatt said he was not surprised that the campaign was nearing its minimum goal with more than 11 months remaining.

The campaign’s completion date is December 31.
