Galesburg Police released more information on Monday regarding Saturday’s shooting that left one dead and two injured on the 1500 block of McKnight St.
An arrest warrant for first-degree murder has been issued for 29-year-old Mercedes Jones who was also shot in the chest.
He was transported by ambulance Saturday to the E.R. of OSF St. Mary Medical Center and is currently at St. Francis in Peoria being treated for his injuries.
Jones will be taken into custody to face charges of first-degree murder upon his release from the hospital according to police.
Jones is accused of killing 31-year-old Demetrius D. Gibbs, who was shot in the chest and found deceased at the scene.
Also, 26-year-old Jasmine Casey was shot in the hand. She’s also at OSF St. Francis being treated but is expected to be released shortly.
While Mercedes Jones has a listed address of Chicago he’s at least been a frequent visitor to Knox County since 2013, as shown by his criminal history.
That includes a Class 2 robbery that he was convicted of committing in Knox in 2013.
Online records say that Gibbs was currently on parole for a residential burglary in Champaign County from 2017.
