The Orpheum Theater will host a free hour-long performance of “1619: The Journey of a People” on Saturday, February 5, at 1:00 pm at the Orpheum Theatre in Galesburg.

The show was written and features teacher, author, and actor Ted Williams III. He spoke with WGIL this week about the production that starts with the beginning of American slavery to the Reconstruction, the Great Migration, the Civil Rights Era, and the modern movements for justice, using history to explain America’s current reality.

Williams was joined by Jane Easterly Assistant Director of the Galesburg Public Library and a member of the Galesburg NAACP, two organizations that helped bring “1619” to Galesburg.
