E. Gene Barton, age 88, of Alpha, IL. passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
Private graveside services will be Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Moline, Illinois. There is no visitation. He was born May 19, 1933, in Maquon, IL. to Clyde and Edith Whittenmyer Barton. He graduated from AlWood High School and married Thelma E. Manthe on July 7, 1956, in Matherville, IL.
Gene was employed at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline for over 40 years.
He was a loyal St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed bowling and gardening. Together with his brothers Gene, Roy, Dave, George, and Paul, all were inducted into the Galesburg Bowling Hall of Fame on March 25, 2001. He especially enjoyed being with his family and attending the New Windsor Fair and Rodeo with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma, 1 daughter, Wendy (Tom) Unger of Peru, IL, grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Clemmons, Sarah (Sam) Nichols, Brett (Beth) Unger, great-grandchildren, Owen and Myles Spring, Jackson, Logan and Cassandra Nichols, 1 brother Dave (Loretta) Barton of New Windsor, Il. and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, one son, Bryan, and brothers Kenneth, Roy, Paul, George, and Harold Barton preceded him in death.
