Edward West, 67 of rural Cameron, passed away at 5 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2022, at his home, after a courageous battle against cancer.

He was born January 27, 1955, in Galesburg, the son of Robert Edward and Elizabeth (Shoemaker) West. He married Janice Smith and they later divorced. He then married Lynn Lomax on March 11, 1994.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of almost 28 years, Lynn Lomax West; his sons, Michael (Ainlsey) West of Galesburg and Dana Allen of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Lavender West, Chase Allen, and Cameron Allen; his siblings, Elizabeth (Larry) Fritz of Berwick, Phyllis (David) Tapp of Mediapolis, Iowa, Linda (Richard) Anderson of Galesburg and Gayla (Gary) Steele of Elsberry, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and their families.

He grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High school in 1974. He was self-employed and owned and operated Ed West Field Tiling and Excavating for 17 years. He was also a farmer and had worked for 30 years at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg, still working there until it closed. He was a former Boy Scout Troop Leader for several years. Ed loved operating his Backhoe, sitting behind the controls, and working with it.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Abingdon Christian Church, 409 S. Main St. Rev. Will Brown and Rev. Bob Malone will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
