The Republican primary between Dan Swanson and Matthew Rauschert for the 71st District State Rep. could be competitive at least in terms of campaigning spending.
Rauschert’s campaign has already spent at least $44,000 since he launched his campaign in August. That’s based on information from Illinois Sunshine that right only includes expenditures through the end of 2021.
Rauschert’s been traveling the 71st District as shown by over $1,000 in gas expenditures.
There wasn’t a lot of media ad buying through the dates shown, but there were purchases of banners, print materials, website development and computer software.
The 22-year-old Rauschert will have a name recognition gap to overcome against Swanson, who is running for his 4th term, although in a slightly different district.
Swanson’s been spending too though. He’s spent $33,000 since August.
Rauschert is running on an alternative kind of conservativism to Swanson.
Rauschert is a farmer and industrial designer.
Swanson is a retired Lt. Colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard who also works on family farm.
