Shortly after midnight on Monday, February 14th, Galesburg Police conducted a traffic stop on a sedan that failed to signal near the intersection of West Losey and Hawkinson Avenue. Officers attempted to make contact with the driver, later identified as 31-year old DeMarcco Clements of Peoria, but Clements refused to roll his window down or speak to officers.
Clements instead, called a female on his phone. He eventually handed the phone to officers, and the female also refused to identify Clements. Police were eventually able to gain entry to the vehicle and Clements finally got out. He was detained and officers searched the sedan since a baggie of cannabis was in plain view in the center console. An open bottle of alcohol was found under a seat. Clements then made numerous threats towards officers while being arrested. He was transported to the Knox County Jail. Ultimately, Clements was charged with Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, Driving While License is Suspended, Obstruction, a McDonough County Warrant, and multiple traffic citations.
