
Gertrude “LaVonne” Newberry of New Windsor, Illinois passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 11:32 A.M. at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois.
LaVonne was born September 28, 1930, in Kirksville, MO, the daughter of Orville and Ruby Clark Morton. She married Robert Newberry on July 4, 1977, in Las Vegas, NV. Robert preceded her in death on August 2, 2007.
LaVonne was an Antique Dealer, Certified Appraiser and owned and operated 6 restaurants in total.
Lavonne enjoyed attending auctions and estate sales, traveling, playing bingo, and watching NASCAR. She was a member of the Hazel Creek Church in Kirksville, MO.
She is survived by her 2 children, Dana (Annette) Krider of Kirksville, MO, Joyce (Ken) Billow of Starkville, MS; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Joyce Billington, Gladys Johnson; 5 brothers, Keith Morton, Doug Morton, Wayne Morton, James Morton, Bob Morton; and many nieces and nephews.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Cheryl Taylor; granddaughter, Jennifer Krider; sister, Shirley Faulk; and 4 brothers, Wendell Morton, Joe Morton, Richard Morton, and Eugene Morton.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 3, 2022, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha, IL. The funeral service will begin directly following the visitation at 12:00 P.M. Interment will be at the New Windsor (Petrie) Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left to the family.
