Galesburg Police early Sunday morning (March 13th) responded to the intersection of North Broad and East Water Streets for a vehicle stopped on the train tracks and the male driver slumped over behind the wheel. The Ford SUV’s engine was running upon police’s arrival. Officers turned off the ignition and then woke the driver: 36-year old Larry Wayne Pearcy of Galesburg. Due to the freezing temperatures that morning, Pearcy was transported to the Public Safety Building to perform a field sobriety test. During the test, Pearcy appeared to fall asleep again while standing. He eventually just sat on the ground and refused to continue. After Pearcy was told he was under arrest for DUI, he became increasingly uncooperative, according to police reports. He refused to sign any paperwork, and at one point yelled and screamed continuously. Pearcy was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with Driving Under the Influence A2 and cited for Impeding Traffic.
