
Just before 8:30 in the morning on Sunday, March 27th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Fulton Street for reports of a burglary in progress. Callers told police the male suspect had departed the area. Officers tracked down the suspect who was running from Blaine Avenue to Duffield Avenue and ordered him to the ground – to which he complied. 19-year old Jacob Smith of Galesburg was then taken into custody. An emotional Smith told police a family friend said he could take clothes from a shed on the property on Fulton Street, according to police reports. Smith was transported to the Knox County Jail and was charged with Burglary and a valid $25,000 Knox County Warrant for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. At the time of the police report, efforts to contact the property owner were unsuccessful.
