The Monmouth City Council will take a vote on April 18th to increase the unit rental fees at the soon-to-be-finished airport hangar.

Aldermen on Monday authorized the city attorney to prepare an amendment to the hangar rental ordinance.

The old hangar burned down a few years ago and the construction of the new hangar is nearing completion.

City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher says that with the new hangar wrapping up construction, the city wanted to assess the fees and compare it with other airports in the state.

“Our current fee is $60 a month. That was what we were charging for the old hangar before it burned down. With the new hangar pretty close to being done in terms of the construction phase, we wanted to review that fee and compare our rates with other general aviation rates in Illinois.”

Steinbrecher says the rate of $100 a month is still less than what other general aviation airports charge in the area.

He says that the new hangar will have increased security for renters with compartmentalized stalls for each plane.
