Wayne Carl selected for Galesburg’s interim City Manager

With City Manager Todd Thompson headed to Rock Island to become their City Manager in May, City Council will soon vote on an interim.

It’s being proposed that Director of Public Works Wayne Carl take over the City Manager duties.

Carl has worked for the city for over two decades, coming on as the City Engineer, promoted to Director of Public Works, and for a while, oversaw Community Development as well.

Carl has been a State of Illinois licensed professional engineer since 1994 and holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University.

Council will vote on Carl as interim at their upcoming Monday council meeting.

Carl is heavily involved in the management of city operations and personnel, making him uniquely qualified to fulfill the duties of City Manager while a thorough search is conducted for a permanent City Manager.

That night they also can approve GovHR to provide executive recruitment services for city manager candidates and collaborate with city staff while the search for a permanent city manager begins.

Todd Thompson has been Galesburg City Manager since 2011.
He recently told the Quad Cities Times he’s appreciated ” the opportunity to serve in Galesburg and will leave with many good memories.”

If the council gives the ok, Carl would start at interim on May 16.
