At about 6:45 pm on Wednesday, April 20th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the UPS Store on East Main street for a suspicious package. One of the boxes awaiting pickup by a UPS truck driver was emitting a fresh cannabis odor. Officers arrived at the store, and with permission from the store’s owner, police deployed a K9 unit. The K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics on a box sitting on the pavement marked “Xtreme Powered by Mediacom”, according to police reports. The box was addressed to a male subject in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The six-pound box also had a return address to a male subject on East Davis in Galesburg. Neither subject could be found in the police database and the box was seized and secured by police. After obtaining a search warrant the following day, the box was opened and 2.4 pounds of cannabis was found inside. A lemon scent had been sprayed all over the inside in an effort to mask the smell. The incident is under investigation.
