The School Board for Galesburg District 205 approved a two-year extension with First Student for transportation needs.

The extension includes a 15 percent increase in costs for the first year and a five percent increase for the second year.

Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operation Jennifer Hamm explained the increase to the board at Monday night’s meeting.

“We were expecting an increase this year, given all the factors that are increasing in the world with substantially increased prices in fuel, with insurance, increasing wages of workers, and difficulty getting and recruiting workers.”

In other action, the school board approved the yearly dual credit agreement with Carl Sandburg College for students wishing to pursue college credit while also earning their high school diploma.

The board also approved several trip requests for different athletic groups and for the disposal of unwanted weight room equipment.

Finally, the board approved a change order for additional crawlspace structural repairs at the Junior-Senior High to the tune of $55,428.58.
