Daylon Richardson
Daylon Richardson, the Granite City man accused of killing Knox County Deputy Nicholas Weist was in court on Monday.
Richardson was assigned a public defender following a preliminary hearing where the Judge found good cause for the case to continue.
The 22-year-old is facing two felony counts of murder as well as individual counts of aggravated fleeing and possession of a weapon by a felon.
These charges are being prosecuted in Henry County because that was where Deputy Weist was struck by Richardson’s vehicle, as he was laying spike strips on the road.
Richardson had indicated he’d be hiring a private counsel in his initial court hearing Friday, April 29th.
Judge Terence Patton set Richardson’s next hearing for two weeks on May 23rd at 1 p.m.
Judge Patton also ordered, at the request of the Henry County state’s attorney, to impound all information related to Richardson’s other open cases.
Richardson refused to stop for Galesburg police, after leaving the East Main St. Circle K, as police were responding to a call of a suspicious person with a gun at the gas station.
