Galesburg Police on Friday night (June 3rd) were dispatched to Walmart for a report of internal theft. Officers met with loss prevention specialists at the store who said 21-year-old Stephane Massamba of Galesburg was seen on video only scanning certain items at a self-checkout.
Some of the items Massamba did not pay for including electric fans that are worn around the neck – he was also seen wearing the fans later while in the store. Loss prevention employees told police it was not the first incident and Massamba had been stealing since April 11th. Massamba told police that sometimes he would not remember if he paid for items until after he was in the parking lot. Officers were given a DVD copy of security footage from all the theft incidents. A total of nearly $300 worth of items were stolen. Massamba was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with Retail Theft.
