WGIL reported on Friday about a male and female found dead in Abingdon in a residence on Snapp St.

Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas on Monday said that the two deceased individuals died of gunshots.

Coroner Thomas pronounced 33-year-old Ellen Renee Penn and 35-year-old Ryan Matthew Stromson dead at the scene.

Autopsies were conducted on both Penn and Stromson Sunday at the Peoria County Coroner’s office.

Results showed that Penn died of multiple gunshots to the head, chest, and back and Stromson died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Abingdon Police Chief Rick Pesci called upon the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation and the Knox County Major Crimes Unit was dispatched to the scene.

Online property tax records show that Penn was the owner of the home where she died.

Court records also show that she filed an order of protection against Stromson almost 16 years ago.

Stromson had a long history of being charged with crimes in Knox County but escaped any serious convictions until 2015.

Over the years he was charged with felonies like aggravated battery, and criminal damage to property, but some of the area’s best-known private attorneys helped him avoid serious jail time.

That ended in 2015 when he pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse to a victim under the age of 13.

Stromson was sentenced to 6 years in the Department of Corrections for his plea.
