Brenda Kye Shinn, 75, of Galesburg, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born February 19, 1947, in Galesburg, the daughter of Bernard and Naomi (Shepherd) Smith. Brenda was reared and educated in Illinois. She attended nursing school and worked as an LPN at various nursing homes, retiring from Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg. Brenda married Ralph A. Shinn on August 23, 1982, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2008.
Brenda is survived by two daughters, Michelle “Missy” Sargeant of Abingdon, Illinois, and Kim Haveman of Iowa; five grandchildren, Sara Watkins, Jade Sargeant, Justice Sargeant, Jacob Spillman, and Jeffrey Houston; four great-grandchildren, Sebastian Goff, Kadince Sargeant, Sawyer Watkins, and Elias Bryan; and one brother, Terry Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 25 years; two sisters, Karol Shoemate and Maxine Centeno; and one brother, Donald Smith.
She was extremely family-oriented and enjoyed spending quality time with her loved ones more than anything else. Brenda will be remembered for always looking nice. She would never leave her house without having her makeup and hair done to perfection, wearing a beautiful outfit, and having her favorite rings to match. Brenda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Community of Christ RLDS Church, 405 N. Pleasant Ave. Galesburg, Illinois. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family.
